Wish / hope. If your friend is sick, you should not say “I wish you would get better”, but you should say “I hope you will get better”. “Wish” is usually for things that are impossible – for possible things you should use “hope”. Unfortunately, to make things more confusing, sometimes we use “wish” for possible things (“I wish you a merry Christmas”, “She wished me good luck”, etc.)
